Reading Experience

Exercise #2

What excellent choices we have in the modern world for researching new material; the reader’s advisory sites will undoubtedly prove to be invaluable, but each in their own way.
Thanks to Sheryl for that wcl weblink - looks great, with a NZ guide; very helpful -
(www.wcl.govt.nz/popular/fiction.html).

I think the real benefits here are to use these sites in selective ways. Knowing how each one of them works will mean how much easier it is for patrons to be directed to the most suitable for them. My own personal preference – now that’s a bit tough. I’m enjoying researching on ‘stopyourkillingme’ ; how marvellous to source by age or by character. Not too keen on the darker website backgrounds or on too many ‘personal opinions’ rather than official book reviews; but the bulk of information available is inspiring.

Also seems to me that Library Thing is a ‘must have’ ; your own catalogued book system and then inter-connecting with other users. How interesting it would be for NSL to have an area for discussion groups on our website, where patrons could interact with other patrons & librarians for advice on what to read & see reviews – the NSL catalogue would then be at hand for reserving those books or making suggestions.
